So, you’re looking into starting an online business in blogging, internet marketing, affiliate marketing or something along those lines. One of the first things you need to learn about is the significant impact of the keyword.
I will take you through the main things you need to know and introduce you to the absolute best free online keyword research tool to use.
I cannot stress how important the keyword is for you, it can make the difference between you getting traffic through your website because you are ranked high up on the top three Search Engines – Google, Yahoo & Bing. Without being ranked on the first page all the other websites who are on the first page are the ones who will get your potential traffic.
A website without traffic is like a large shop which has been furnished beautifully but never has a customer = NO SALES!
Let’s start from the beginning…
What is a Keyword?
Dictionary Description: “A word or concept of great significance”
If you think about writing a blog you need to ask yourself what search terms would people use in the search engine to look for that sort of information on the internet – how will they find your post? What would you put in the search box to find your page?
It is all about the keyword(s) you use in the title of your blog and again somewhere within the first or second paragraph.
Using a strong keyword or phrase is how to get ranked – it’s how to be the website that the person searching clicks on.
How Do I Know What is a Good Keyword?

There are manual ways of checking using Google Search – the search box on Google.
When you type in some test keywords or phrases Google will show you the most popular searches based on that subject. If you click on one of them it will then show you how many pages there are on Google which contain that keyword or phrase. This is basic information but it gives you a good idea of what you’re up against and also gives you alternatives which you can play around with.
However, there is a much better way – in fact it’s second to none in finding a strong keyword or phrase for your post.
Jaaxy is by far the best online FREE keyword research tool out there – it’s easy to use, offers an endless supply of options and allows you store Keyword Lists for you to keep referring back to whenever you need another keyword at a later date.
When you type in your keyword or phrase into the Jaaxy Search Box you will see this screen:
First column (Keyword): it shows you a list of regularly used search words around the subject of your keywords you typed in the Search box.
Second column (Avg): This number shows the average number of times that particular key phrase is searched for in a month, globally!
Third column (Traffic): This shows the amount of traffic you would get to your website monthly if you used that particular keyword or phrase.
Fourth column (QSR): Quoted Search Results – this means this is the number of competing websites ranked in Google which use that exact keyword or phrase.
Fifth column (KQI): Keyword Quality Indicator – this shows Great, Normal or Poor indicators.
Sixth column (SEO): this is a score based on traffic and competition – the higher the score, the more likely you will rank on Google on the first page (1-100, the higher the better).
Seventh column (Domains): this is the availability of the domains related to that specific keyword or phrase.
Using the displayed information you can play around with various versions of the keywords or change it around completely until you find what you’re looking for – the stronger the better.
What Numbers Am I Aiming For?
The main columns to be paying attention to:
Second Column (Avg) – you should be looking for a number of between 50 to 100 – I know 50 searches per month doesn’t sound that much but if you choose a keyword which is getting over 3000 searches per month you can bet your house that there will be hundreds of competing websites all using that keyword or phrase.
You will then have absolutely no hope of getting ranked on the first page – and if you are way down on page 20 you may as well not have written the blog at all because nobody will be reading it EVER!
Fourth Column (QSR) – It’s best if you keep this number to under 100, especially if you’re a fairly new website. Until you are well established keep it under the 100 mark. Less competition propels you up to the top of the rankings.
Sixth Column (KSI) – you are looking for a number as close to the top score of 100 as you can get because it shows you how much of a chance you have of getting ranked highly.
If you get all three of these columns coming in at the right level you are giving yourself the best chance at high ranking which leads to traffic, which leads to sales!
